The San Francisco 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals this weekend, and it means facing a host of former teammates. The most notable changed teams this offseason, with Antoine Bethea and Phil Dawson both joining the Cardinals after the 49ers cut them. However, the 49ers will likely not face one notable former teammate. Left guard Alex Boone is likely to miss some time with an injury suffered during Monday Night Football, according to Kent Somers.
Boone was cut by the Minnesota Vikings at the end of the preseason, and quickly landed with the Cardinals on September 5. He was a reserve in Week 1, but took over at left guard in Weeks 2 and 3 after Mike Iupati aggravated a triceps injury. Boone suffered an injury on Monday Night Football, and Carson Palmer told Somers after that, “We lost Alex tonight.” There will be an update on Boone’s status later today.
Iupati suffered the triceps injury in the preseason, and was questionable for Week 1 after three limited practices. He played that game, but was a DNP in practice and out for Week 2. Iupati was limited all this week, but ended up inactive. His practice status will be worth watching given Boone’s injury and potential absence.
