Pierre Garçon continues his push to raise funds for Haiti relief

New, comments

And we’re ready to pitch in.

The San Francisco 49ers have plenty to deal with on the field, but as usual numerous players are keeping plenty active in their local communities. The team has undergone significant roster turnover, which makes it harder to know who is doing what with which charities, but wide receiver Pierre Garçon is among the more vocal and visible in this regard.

Garçon is of Haitian descent, and he has used his platform to help Haiti in its continued efforts to rebuild after the 2010 earthquake. It’s been seven years, but the country still has a lot of work to do. Garçon has used his foundation to, “bring enduring education, health and community programs to the people of Haiti; to provide long-term sustainable initiatives that will continue to positively influence the lives of Haitians.”

Lately, that has involved pushing hard on getting people to buy Garçon Haiti apparel. The shirt includes his name with the Haitian flag worked into the design. It’s a pretty cool shirt if you’re looking to get a shirt and donate to a good cause. Proceeds benefit the J/P Haitian Relief Organization.

Speaking of that, I’ve been working with the folks who helped us create the Jim Tomsula Bludgeon t-shirt, and we had some ideas for a Pierre Garçon t-shirt. The plan would be to send all proceeds to the J/P Haitian Relief Organization.

We cannot use his name, and likely can’t use his number, so one idea was to use the cedilla, which is the ç in his name. The idea came following his amazing toe-tap catch on Thursday Night Football. I’m open to ideas on how best to identify Garçon in this aside from using his name or number.
