The San Francisco 49ers stand a fairly decent shot of not having to face Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck in Week 5. Colts head coach Chuck Pagano announced on Wednesday that Luck will not practice this week and the team hopes to “integrate” him into things starting next week.
Colts HC Chuck Pagano: Andrew Luck will not practice this week. Still a week away on throwing progressing. Hopefully integrating him next wk— Mike Chappell (@mchappell51) September 27, 2017
This all but guarantees that Luck will not be ready to play when the 49ers come to town a week from Sunday. Luck has not practiced since having offseason shoulder surgery. He is ramping up his throwing program, but the odds are slim to none that he would be in game shape with only three days of practice next week.
In the meantime, Jacoby Brissett remains the Colts starting quarterback. After getting limited snaps in Week 1, and then completing 54.1 percent of his passes for 216 yards and an interception in Week 2, he helped guide Indianapolis to a Week 3 win over the Cleveland Browns. Brissett finished Week 3 completing 70.8 percent of his passes for 259 yards and a touchdown. He also scrambled for 14 yards and two touchdowns.
Things might be coming together for Brissett and the Colts to some degree, but I’ll still take a matchup against him than facing Luck. It seems like it will be at least two or three more weeks before Luck is back in game action.
