49ers injury report: Jaquiski Tartt, Brock Coyle out of non-contact jerseys

The 49ers should have a couple valuable pieces back healthy for Sunday.

The San Francisco 49ers have three players in the concussion protocol, and two of them made noticeable signs of progress on Thursday. Per the 49ers beat writers, safety Jaquiski Tartt and linebacker Brock Coyle were both out of non-contact jerseys at practice. Kyle Juszczyk remained in his non-contact jersey.

All three were cleared for football activities heading into Wednesday’s practice, but were not cleared for contact. Tartt and Coyle have taken an important step forward, while we will have to wait for Friday’s practice to see where Juszczyk stands in the protocol.

If Tartt is good to go on Sunday, he will be starting at strong safety next to Jimmie Ward. The 49ers need to get Eric Reid back in the lineup, but in the meantime, Ward and Tartt will get some valuable time together in the defensive backfield. Lorenzo Jerome is the primary backup, with Adrian Colbert and Asa Jackson behind him.

Coyle is one of the backups at linebacker, but is primarily a special teams player. The 49ers specialists have gotten off to a strong start, and getting Coyle back from his concussion will help keep them moving in the right direction.
