I thought our inside linebacker play might fall off a smidgen with Reuben Foster's injury but I would have never thought it would fall off a cliff. Armstrong has been terrible and Bowman has not been much better. Bowman was understandably tired on Thursday night football after the 49ers defense was on the field for 79 snaps during the Seattle game. Hopefully they can both bounce back on Sunday. I know it was a small sampling but Armstrong looked pretty good last year and I can only hope he can get back to that point.
I am a huge Bowman fan and I have been quick to stick up for him but I must admit, he doesn't look like the same person out there as he was even two seasons ago after coming back from his knee injury. Maybe all of the Debbie Downers were right about him. Maybe his coming back from this last injury was too much to ask? I sure hope he can get his mojo back, after all, we have only played three games. I will be keeping my fingers crossed.
I am not sure our cornerbacks are looking that much better than our inside linebackers. I don't know what to think about Robinson at this point. I was really hoping he would show some improvement from last season but I have yet to see it. He can look so good and so bad, if only he can learn to be more consistent. Witherspoon was a big draft crush of mine but it doesn't look like he will be good enough to even dress up any time soon. Our most consistent cornerback appears to be Dontae Johnson.
This means our defensive line really needs to get some big time pressure on Carson Palmer. I am really counting on guys like Buckner, Lynch, and Dumervil to keep our linebackers and cornerbacks from getting schooled by Fitzgerald and company.
