Fooch’s update: Full roster update

The San Francisco 49ers cut down to 53 players on Saturday, and while we await word on potential waiver wire additions, the team is also beginning to assemble its 10-man practice squad. Players that clear waivers can sign to a practice squad beginning at 10 a.m. PT. For those wondering, if a player is claimed off waivers, they have to stay on the 53-man roster. To move them to the practice squad, they must be again waived.

Reports are starting to come in as to players joining the squad. Eric Branch has the first name offensive tackle Darrell Williams. We’ll update the list below as names come in. The 49ers do not have to sign a full ten-man squad today. They might wait for more players to clear waivers tomorrow and into the week.

A player on the practice squad is allowed to sign with another team’s 53-man roster at any point during the season. However, if they do sign with another team, they have to be paid for at least three weeks of being on the active roster. A player who signs to the practice squad cannot sign with another practice squad unless his current team releases him from their practice squad.
