The San Francisco 49ers have made some roster moves official to close out their Sunday. The team claimed defensive end Xavier Cooper off waivers, and made room for him by placing Ronald Blair on injured reserve. Blair can return at some point this season thanks to the placement this afternoon.
The team also announced eight practice squad signings. The group includes wide receiver DeAndre Carter, offensive lineman JP Flynn, tight end Cole Hikutini, cornerback Asa Jackson, quarterback Nick Mullens, defensive lineman Noble Nwachukwu, wide receiver DeAndre Smelter, and offensive lineman Darrell Williams Jr.
There have been reports the 49ers signed running back Jeremy McNichols. The rookie was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday. The move will likely be announced on Monday once he arrives in Santa Clara and signs his contract. The Jackson signing is the only one that had not been reported prior to the official announcement.
Earlier this afternoon, there was a report the 49ers are releasing tight end Logan Paulsen. According to the beat writers, the team actually released him, placed Blair on IR, and re-signed Paulsen. So, that little drama is complete.
