Packers sign Quinton Dial, Cardinals sign Alex Boone

New, comments

The 49ers will get to see Boone twice a year, as he re-joins Mike Iupati on an offensive line

The San Francisco 49ers said good bye to defensive tackle Quinton Dial last week, deciding to release him and go younger behind Earl Mitchell. It did not take Dial long to land a new job. Per Matt Barrows, Dial’s agent said the defensive tackle has signed with the Green Bay Packers. He re-joins Ahmad Brooks, who signed with Green Bay after the 49ers released him.

Dial gives the Packers some valuable depth along the line. The Packers play a 3-4, and Dial brings versatility to spell anybody on the defensive front. The 49ers released him with the belief that he would not fit into their new scheme. They signed veteran Earl Mitchell and drafted D.J. Jones, and then claimed Xavier Cooper off waivers this weekend.

While the 49ers will not see Dial on the field this year (barring an unexpected playoff run), they will get to see another former 49er twice this season. The Minnesota Vikings released Alex Boone over the weekend, and he has signed with the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals recently signed Andy Lee, and already have Phil Dawson in place. More interesting is that Boone reunites with fellow offensive lineman Mike Iupati. Boone will likely take over at right guard in place of Evan Boehm.
