49ers-Panthers picks: SB Nation not unanimous in taking Carolina, surprisingly

New, comments

Not every expert thinks the Panthers will beat the 49ers, which itself is a small victory ... right?

The San Francisco 49ers are probably going to lose to the Carolina Panthers. They’re probably going to lose to most of the teams they play this season, but that’s just an early guess. Fortunately, you probably won’t hear my prediction every single week because it’s likely going to be the same.

That can’t be said for the SB Nation experts, who pick every game every week. The panel consists of several NFL staffers, retired NFL defensive end Stephen White and retired NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz. The Week 1 picks went live on Wednesday, and there are few surprises.

One surprise is that the Panthers are not a unanimous pick. Two of the experts — Adam Stites and Joel Thorman — are picking the 49ers to win. The OddsShark prediction computer also has the 49ers beating the Panthers, which is pretty neat. In total, there are six experts picking the Panthers and two — plus the computer — picking the 49ers.

The unanimous picks are for the Cincinnati Bengals against the Baltimore Ravens and the Los Angeles Rams against the Andrew Luck-less, Scott Tolzien-quarterbacked Indianapolis Colts. I find the latter one questionable, especially if Aaron Donald misses the game for the Rams, which isn’t confirmed as of yet.
