Chiefs-Patriots final score: I certainly did not see this coming

New, comments

Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt thoroughly dominated

NFL: Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

I picked the New England Patriots to cover the nine point spread against the Kansas City Chiefs. I expressed some skepticism because of the public betting on New England, but I figured this Patriots team was going to open their Super Bowl defense in style.

Welp.

The Patriots did open in style, and looked ready to roll after a Kareem Hunt fumble. Mike Gillislee had three rushing touchdowns and New England seemed like they would eventually pull away. Instead, the Chiefs hung around and we saw Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt put together monster performances. Smith threw for 368 yards and four touchdowns, while Hunt had 239 total yards and three touchdowns. It was a thoroughly ridiculous at night.

I grow frustrated with the NFL at times. The concussion stuff, the treatment of players, and so much more. I wonder how I can keep watching, and then we get this kind of game, and I am sucked back in. It was a wild affair and all sorts of fun. Yep, football’s back in our lives for the next five months (well, at least four for the 49ers).
