Kyle Shanahan: ‘I’d be surprised if [George Kittle] wasn’t ready to go’ vs. Panthers

The 49ers rookie tight end is dealing with a hamstring injury.

The San Francisco 49ers will release their final injury report Friday afternoon, and it seems like a good chance tight end George Kittle will get the questionable designation. The NFL used to have a probable designation but removed that last year.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan was on KNBR Friday morning, and he was more optimistic about Kittle than free safety Jimmie Ward when asked if he would be available Sunday.

"I'd be surprised if he isn't. He's been ahead of Jimmie and he didn't have as big of a setback as he did a couple of weeks ago. He's been out there. He definitely has been limited. We can't put him out as much as we want, but he's getting better each day and I'd be surprised if he wasn't ready to go."

Kittle suffered a hamstring injury in training camp and the team has made sure not to rush him back. The rest of the tight end depth chart currently includes Logan Paulsen and Garrett Celek, with Cole Hikutini on the practice squad.

We won’t get a final answer until game day inactives are announced 90 minutes before the game, but I’m guessing we see Kittle out there barring an aggravation on Friday or Saturday.
