Ezekiel Elliott likely won’t miss Week 7 vs. 49ers

New, comments

Elliott and the NFLPA got his six-game suspension delayed, for now. It’s likely he’ll be active when the 49ers play the Cowboys.

A Federal Judge on Friday granted an NFL Players Association request for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to prevent the suspension of Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott. The running back was already eligible to play in the team’s opener against the New York Giants, but his six-game suspension for personal conduct policy violations related to a domestic abuse incident was set to begin after that.

That’s because an arbitrator upheld Elliott’s suspension set forth by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Now that a the courts have granted the injunction, it’s unlikely that Elliott will be suspended any time soon. Until the legal process plays out, Elliott will likely be able to continue playing. Given the length of the NFL’s farcical battle with Tom Brady over the DeflateGate incident, Elliott could very well play in every game this season.

Of course, that includes the Cowboys’ Week 7 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Even if the courts get through things in time to have Elliott serving a suspension this season, it would happen later in the season, meaning the 49ers will likely be seeing him on the field.

I don’t know how this is going to play out, but both Adrian Peterson and Tom Brady won their initial skirmishes against the NFL before they ultimately served their suspensions.

Of course, Elliott’s alleged transgressions are much, much more serious than those mentioned above. The NFL’s investigation found that the accusations of domestic abuse were credible in three of five instances. That in itself creates a whole lot of questions, I’m just letting it be known because I really don’t know how this ends.

Elliott’s suspension is for six games, but they Cowboys will have a bye in Week 6, prior to facing the 49ers in Santa Clara.
