The NFC West looked fairly secure in the coaching search process, but Black Monday is bringing a change. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Bruce Arians is set to retire from coaching.

The Cardinals are coming off a disappointing 8-8 season. Carson Palmer was lost to injury, and Arizona could not get much of anything going. Palmer’s future is up in the air, and the team is in a transition period. They have enough talent to remain competitive, but one has to wonder if they will enter into the full-on rebuilding process sooner rather than later.

The NFC West is going through quite the transition this year. The Los Angeles Rams claimed the division for the first time in 14 years, and the San Francisco 49ers find themselves with a ton of momentum thanks to Jimmy Garoppolo. The Seattle Seahawks finished 9-7 and won’t go to the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Plenty can change this offseason, but it would appear we are seeing a new era in the NFC West.
