During the season, the 49ers had a rough time keeping their players healthy. Their injured reserve list kept growing as the season wore on. Heading into an offseason where the 49ers have a massive amount of cap space and a number of draft picks to bolster the roster, the players returning from injured reserve could provide a lot of the talent the 49ers need to compete next season.

Pierre Garcon was injured eight games into the season and was never able to play alongside Jimmy Garoppolo. Garcon proved to be a reliable receiver and had 40 catches for 500 yards before going down. While the 49ers will still likely look for a true #1 receiver, Pierre’s reliability and knowledge of Kyle’s system could be a big benefit for Jimmy. Having right tackle Trent Brown back will help reinforce the offensive line that played well under Garoppolo and running back Joe Williams could provide the 49ers with a new offensive threat for Kyle Shanahan to utilize.

One of the hardest hit positions was the 49ers safeties. Jacquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward, who were the 49ers starting safeties at the beginning of the season, will be back and both showed played well when they were healthy. Jimmie could be moved back to corner next season with Adrian Colbert emerging as a solid safety. The return of Chancellor James should provide depth at the safety spots so the 49ers could focus on other areas of need on the defensive side of the ball.
