Maybe if we’re lucky, Tom Cable gets promoted!

The Seattle Seahawks are in the middle of some kind of transition period, and they are making a big move to kick off their offseason. Beat writer Curtis Crabtree reported Tuesday evening (later reported by Ian Rapoport) that the team is firing offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Bevell had been the Seahawks OC for the past seven years. He was the only OC Russell Wilson has known in the NFL, but offensive issues have made Bevell the target of many criticisms levied against him. The Seahawks offense has had some really solid years during Bevell’s tenure, but inconsistency has marked the seven year period.

As many have pointed out, the biggest issues have been the offensive line and run game. Assistant head coach Tom Cable has served as offensive line coach during the entirety of Bevell’s time as OC, and also has had a hand as run game coordinator. He has accumulated power in Seattle, and one has to wonder if he gets promoted into the offensive coordinator role.

Whether or not it’s Cable, Russell Wilson will be looking at a new offensive coordinator heading into 2018. With free agency turnover potentially impacting the team as well, it’s going to make for an interesting 2018 season in the Pacific Northwest.
