Seahawks fire OL coach Tom Cable, QB coach, maybe defensive coordinator

The overhaul is on for a much maligned offensive coaching staff.

The Seattle Seahawks are not messing around when it comes to shaking up their coaching staff. A day after reports offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell would be fired, reports now have the Seahawks firing quarterbacks coach Carl Smith and offensive line coach Tom Cable. The team also might let defensive coordinator Kris Richard out of his contract to pursue other opportunities.

There was a brief report Cable would take over as OC, but clearly they are looking for a fresh start on that side of the ball. There was a subsequent report that Atlanta Falcons OC Steve Sarkisian might get the job, but the Falcons sound like they have no plans on letting that happen.

This makes for a fascinating offseason in Seattle. Russell Wilson has had most of the same offensive coaches his entire NFL career. His talent is undeniable, but what will a change in the coaching staff mean for his production? Seahawks fans are excited for some of these departures, particularly that of Cable. But none of this will matter if they don’t find quality talent on the offensive line, or at least find ways to get more out of their current talent.
