The Carolina Panthers fired their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach earlier this week, and they have found replacements, including a familiar face. The Panthers are set to hire Norv Turner as offensive coordinator, and his son Scott to serve as quarterbacks coach.
Norv last worked for the Minnesota Vikings, as offensive coordinator from 2014 to 2016. He’s familiar to 49ers fans from his 2006 stint as San Francisco’s offensive coordinator, and then of course his time as Dallas Cowboys OC from 1991 to 1993.
So, what exactly was Norv up to after his time in Minnesota? I’m glad you asked! Let’s turn to former 49ers coach Steve Mariucci!
Norv Turner and my son @StephenRayMusic co-wrote a country song and it’s now on iTunes & Spotify! (Yep, believe it!) All song sales are being donated to @MakeAWish in Dec. & Jan. Listen here! https://t.co/ujYkUi4dDd pic.twitter.com/trpiuH5pFA— Steve Mariucci (@SteveMariucci) December 12, 2017
Yep, Norv Turner co-wrote a country song! If you are into country and want to buy it on iTunes or Spotify, proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The name of the song is “Things I’ve Never Done,” and according to Mooch’s son, Turner came up with, “an idea for a song that included somewhat of a ‘bucket list’ like theme of doing things we’ve never done.” Apparently, over the years, Norv has been jotting down ideas for songs and poems in a notebook. Turner and Mariucci wrote the song together, Mariucci came up with the music and melodies, and voilá!
So, a big welcome back to the NFL for Norv, and I guess we’ll see what his song-writing career brings down the road.
