Reuben Foster named to PFWA all-rookie team

New, comments

The linebacker was the only 49ers rookie to be named to the team.

After a weekend of bad news, San Francisco 49ers rookie linebacker Reuben Foster got some good news on Tuesday. The Pro Football Writers of America selected Foster to the PFWA All-Rookie team. The linebacker corps included Foster, Jarrad Davis, and T.J. Watt. The PFWA also named their rookie of the year (Kareem Hunt), co-offensive rookies of the year (Hunt, Alvin Kamara), and defensive rookie of the year (Marshon Lattimore).

Foster was the only 49ers rookie to earn honors. Adrian Colbert might have had a better shot if he got into the starting lineup earlier in the season. Jamal Adams and Marcus Williams were the two all-rookie safeties.

Cooper Kupp and JuJu Smith-Schuster were the all-rookie wide receivers, while Evan Engram was the all-rookie tight end. Trent Taylor and George Kittle both had really solid rookie seasons, but Kupp, Smith-Schuster, and Engram all had greater output this season. If there was a second-team all-rookie squad, I could have seen Taylor and Kittle potentially getting some love.
