ZEBRA tracking devices will be used at the Senior Bowl

New, comments

This will be the first year that RFID devices will be used on players and balls at the Reese’s Senior Bowl

NCAA Football: Senior Bowl Glenn Andrews-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers and the other 31 NFL teams will all have scouting representation at the Reese’s Senior Bowl next week in Mobile, Alabama. This year they will get information about each player’s performance from the use of RFID (radio frequency identification) that will be used on both players and footballs.

Zebra is the “Official On-Field Player Tracking Provider” for the NFL and is responsible for the Next Gen Stats you see on broadcasts. Its tracking data will be highlighted throughout Senior Bowl week as players wear RFIDs during practices, as well as in Sunday’s game.

Here is more information that was provided by Zebra:

Zebra Sports Solution attaches RFID tags to a player’s equipment to track their movements on the field, which enables coaches to gather performance data including each player’s practice participation, speed and acceleration information, distance traveled by period, drill, and throughout the entire practice session.

NFL coaches, scouts and general managers will receive player tracking and performance data to assist them in their evaluation and scouting of some of the top college players. Zebra will also sponsor the Reese’s Senior Bowl game on Jan. 27, 2018 which will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama and will be aired on the NFL Network.

Sean Payton, Head Coach, New Orleans Saints

“The New Orleans Saints benefit from the data provided by Zebra as it gives us the visibility we need to make the right calls during each of our practices and in preparation for our games. Our recruiting efforts will also be enhanced as we can better evaluate and scout college players based on data generated at the Senior Bowl.”

Phil Savage, Executive Director, Senior Bowl

“With 500 former players on active NFL rosters, the Senior Bowl features the future stars of the league. We are thrilled to work with Zebra so that we have the best real-time tracking technology to help evaluators get the details about each player’s performance to build successful teams.”

John Pollard, Vice President, Business Development, Zebra Sports

“Zebra Sports looks forward to providing the real-time player data to support the evaluation and assessment needs of the NFL. Our engagement will enhance the overall experience of the Senior Bowl with unprecedented tracking capabilities during practices and the game.”
