Time to grade every 49ers roster addition from the 2017 offseason. Today, we look at wide receiver Aldrick Robinson.

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up the 2017 season and have begun their work to prepare for 2018 free agency and the draft. We’ll be breaking down plenty of what that means, but in the meantime, we wanted to take a look back at the season that was for the 49ers. Jimmy Garoppolo capture our imagination, but the 49ers rebuilding process was extensive last year. We are going to take a look at every notable addition and provide a forum for grading how that signing, trade, or draft pick worked out.

How acquired: Signed two-year, $6 million contractCap breakdown

The 49ers overhauled their wide receiver corps this past offseason, signing Pierre Garçon, Marquise Goodwin, and Aldrick Robinson, drafting Trent Taylor, and signing Kendrick Bourne and Victor Bolden as UDFAs. The team extended Jeremy Kerley early in the offseason, but proceeded to cut him late in early September.

Of the new haul, Garçon and Robinson were the only receivers who had experience in Kyle Shanahan’s system. Garçon worked with Shanahan in Washington, while Robinson worked with him in Washington, and then again in 2016 in Atlanta.

Robinson was never a consistently productive receiver prior to joining the 49ers, but when Julio Jones went down for a couple games late in 2016, Robinson put together some decent work. Over two weeks in December 2016, he caught seven passes for 153 yards. My thought was it showed he could do some things when given more of an opportunity.

This year, by season’s end, it was really just more of the same from Robinson. He finished with 19 receptions for 260 yards and two touchdowns, which was in line with his previous work. It wasn’t that he performed poorly, but rather that he was what he had shown most of his career previously.

All of this is to say that given how some of the 49ers other receivers emerged in 2017, Robinson seems like a cut candidate this year. He finished third among 49ers receivers in snaps last year, but there are a couple caveats to that: 1) Pierre Garçon finished lower due to his season-ending neck injury, 2) Kendrick Bourne had surpassed Robinson on the depth chart late in the season.

Robinson could still earn a roster spot for the coming season, but it seems like this could end up being a one-and-done kind of situation. Factoring everything in, how would you grade the signing?
