Who is the one player you don’t want the 49ers to pick in the NFL Draft?

New, comments

Of the players the 49ers could have a realistic shot at landing in the first round, who do you NOT want?

Mock draft season is here, which means draft crush season is just around the corner. Just about everyone with passable knowledge about the top prospects for the 2018 NFL Draft has a player they want their favorite team to pick.

A lot of people here like running back Saquon Barkley, regardless of the need at the position. Minkah Fitzpatrick is the safest cornerback pick in years, and also happens to fill a huge need. The 49ers could use more help getting after the quarterback and really need an upgrade to the interior of the offensive line.

If the 49ers have 10 players they like a whole lot, they are guaranteed to get at least one of those players, as they will pick No. 9 or No. 10 overall in the first round. But I certainly don’t feel good about 10 players at No. 10 overall, and I’m sure a lot of you good folks feel he same way.

We’ll get to our own draft crushes a bit later — I’ve got quite a few that I’m into enough to be sorely disappointed when the 49ers definitely do not draft them because that’s not how sports works.

What I want to know is this: who is your anti-crush? Specifically, let’s talk about players who could go in the first round. Who do you want the 49ers to avoid drafting, and why? It could be someone that they’re tied to frequently in mock drafts or someone who is simply considered a first-round pick that the 49ers could get at No. 9, No. 10 or somewhere else after trading.

I’m personally not sold on Barkley, but a lot of that has to do with my own strong opinions on Carlos Hyde. I don’t think I’d be upset if the 49ers drafted Barkley, I’m just a little wary for the time being.

There are also a lot of mocks sending linebackers to the 49ers, and while this probably fits the strict definition of “take the best player available” to an extent, I think the 49ers’ linebackers are in a good spot, if injuries play out the way we’d like them.

But for now, I don’t have a player I’d particularly like to avoid. Of course, I’ve just begun my film study proper, so I have a lot of opinions that have yet to fully develop, as I don’t really watch college football while the season is ongoing. Still, I’d love to hear the guys you folks want to avoid.
