Happy Monday, folks. Not surprisingly, Sunday was a quiet day for the 49ers, as well as for most teams around the league. Behind the scenes, I’m sure the organization is hard at work, hastily performing both collegiate and pro scouting. However, due to the secretive nature of that type of business, we’ll simply have to wait until free agency and the draft to shake out before we’ll know about it.
In the meantime, we get the Pro Bowl. An annual contest between top players at each position, this meaningless exhibition game has long been derided as “extraneous”, and more recently, “no longer even a free vacation to Hawai’i”. I’d provide sources for those prior assertions, but I find it moderately unlikely anyone will challenge the validity thereof.
When the nation is treated to the Pro Bowl, individual fanbases not associated with Super Bowl bound squads (or the Browns) are given the ultimate in football-themed nicotine patches to fix our cravings during the playoffs dead zone: highlights from your players who made it. Fortunately for us, our non-offensive-line player who represented the fine organization was a fullback, and his 12 rushing yards certainly marks a high point of the season for this proud franchise.
(Note: he did have a sweet catch though, so do check that out)
In other distractions, Marquise Goodwin jumped over a Lamborghini and posted it to Instagram. Thankfully, the former Olympian wasn’t injured, in what I hope is the last dumb thing that any of our beloved players does this offseason. Can you imagine the dental bill had his foot caught?
Luckily, there’s less than a week remaining before the Patriots and Eagles do battle for the Lambroty in Minnesota. I can’t imagine two more boorish fanbases descending upon, what I assume must be, a quaint midwestern town. After that, it’s a long road until the March 14th opening of Free Agency.
