The 49ers headed into the offseason with a lot of momentum and a lot of hope for the future. This offseason will help build on that momentum they gained. One of the biggest reasons is due to their salary cap situation. The 49ers have the most money available under the salary cap. Sitting at around $119 million under the cap, the 49ers can go after any free agent they want, even after they sign Jimmy Garoppolo to a long-term deal.
Last offseason, John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan aggressively signed players to the roster. They can continue to do that this offseason, but they don’t plan on spending the money just because they have it. They have made smart moves thus far in their 1st year and will look to sign players that can fit what they are trying to build in Santa Clara. If the right player is available and the price works, the 49ers will not hesitate to make a move.
On Monday, the 49ers blocked the Tennessee Titans’ request to interview their defensive quality control coach, DeMeco Ryans. The Titans wanted to interview him for a position on Mike Vrabel’s staff, but the 49ers are interested in keeping DeMeco in Santa Clara for the forseeable future.
