Earlier this week, ESPN Deportes reported the Los Angeles Rams are expected to give up a home game and play in Mexico City in 2018. I thought there was a chance the San Francisco 49ers might end up being the “road” opponent for the game, but it appears that might not be the case.
Kansas City Chiefs beat writer Terez Paylor came across an article at Televiso Deportes saying the Chiefs would be the team to face the Rams. Paylor contacted the NFL for comment. An NFL spokesperson confirmed the Rams would play one game internationally, but said the 2018 International Series schedule was not yet finalized.
The NFL schedule will drop in mid-April. The 49ers have twice played in London over the past decade. They faced the Denver Broncos in 2010, and the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013. There had been some other rumors the 49ers might play the Rams in China, but nothing further ever came of that rumor. At some point I would imagine the 49ers head on the road internationally, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out if it happens this year.
