The Falcons and Rams wrap up the first day of the 2018 NFL playoffs in Seattle. We break down the pertinent information to get you ready for the game.

The 2018 NFL playoffs continue with Saturday wild card action between the NFC West winning Los Angeles Rams, and the NFC South wild card Atlanta Falcons. If the Rams win, they advance to face the Minnesota Vikings. If the Falcons win, they advance to face the Philadelphia Eagles. The game kicks off at 5:15 p.m. PT on NBC, with Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth in the booth, and Michele Tafoya on the sideline.

The Rams are in the playoffs for the first time in over a decade, knocking off the Seattle Seahawks for the NFC West title. Sean McVay has done an amazing job turning Jared Goff and Todd Gurley into an impressive offense this season. Add in a dominant defense, and this is a team that is going places. They struggled at times against better teams, so a Super Bowl run seems a bit of a long-shot, but if they get hot, who knows.

Last week, I chatted with Turf Show Times about the Rams playoff chances. Here’s what they had to say.

I mean, they’re not bad, right? Sure, the Rams aren’t 16-0, but all of their losses have been tight. They avenged the Week 5 loss to the Seattle Seahawks with that stomping in Week 15. In Week 11, the Rams went to Minneapolis and were tied with the Minnesota Vikings after three quarters. A tough road loss on a poorly managed fourth quarter to a playoff-bound team isn’t that bad. And they came up short against the Philadelphia Eagles in a really, really good football game a few weeks ago.

So as I look across the NFL and playoff landscapes, I don’t think there’s anyone the Rams can’t beat. That doesn’t mean I’m locking them into the Super Bowl. You have to play the games first. But I don’t see a single team that I think the Rams can’t compete with.

Which given where things stood a year ago at this time is one of the more ridiculous things in my lifetime.

The Rams are a 5.5 point home favorite, which is always a tough line. The Rams seem like they should win this one, but the Falcons’ playoff experience makes them tough. However, I’m going to lay the points with the Rams. I don’t think the Rams win the Super Bowl this year, but I think we see a standout performance in their first playoff game.
