It was another heart breaking loss for the 49ers but it’s not because they lack confidence or need to learn how to win - they just need to finish

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

The 49ers faced the Packers on a very brisk Monday night in a match up that was supposed to headline Jimmy Garoppolo and Aaron Rodgers. Football fans weren't disappointed though, because it ended up being a showdown that wasn’t decided until the final minutes. Unfortunately for the 49ers, it wasn’t the outcome that they were looking for, victory in reach for most of the game.

It was a flashback to the 2017 season when the team lost five straight games by three points or less.

Here’s what some of the 49ers had to say about the loss after the game:

Kyle Shanahan

“Very disappointed. We had a chance to win that game and we didn’t get it done. It hurts.”

C.J. Beathard

“It hurts. It’s tough. I mean you’re so close, you feel like you should've won the game. You just have to get back on the horse and move onto next week.”

Marquise Goodwin

“[On his two touchdown game] I do take satisfaction in that. I am grateful that God has given me that opportunity but that doesn’t overshadow the fact that we lost. I would rather win and not score any touchdowns.”

Joe Staley

“We ran the ball the whole game really well, but then the last tow drives, three and out. That was the story of the game for us. You just care about winning, It is frustrating, the three and outs after playing so well the whole game.”

George Kittle

“We just didn’t get it done. We didn’t win. You can’t give a guy like that the ball back with that much time left. That’s not on our defense at all. We had opportunities to put it away and we didn’t.”

Matt Breida

“We just gotta finish. That’s the main reason I feel like we are losing right now, we aren’t finishing at the end of these games. Once we get that down, we will start hitting these wins and get on a roll.”

Reuben Foster

“We just gotta finish. It started out rough but at the end of the day we beat ourselves and we can’t do that. We shall not do that. We must not do that. We just gotta get in the film room and not even have our head down, have em up high.”

Richard Sherman

“We kept fighting. I gotta give our guys credit. Unfortunately, Jimmie [Ward] went down before that last drive and Mabes [Greg Mabin] came in and played hard and that’s all you can ask him to do. We gotta find a way to finish that and that’s all that can be said. Gotta find a way to get it done regardless of the circumstances.”
