The San Francisco 49ers had their first practice of the week on Wednesday, but given the quick turnaround from Monday Night Football, the practice was a walkthrough instead of a full session. The team provided a practice participation report, but it was estimated as if there had been a full practice.
The Wednesday practice is always the baseline from which we see what Wednesday and Thursday bring for the injury report. As the season moves along, veterans get more and more Wednesdays off, whether they’re healthy or dinged up. An estimated report is helpful, but for any injury report, Thursday is when you get a better idea of where things actually stand.
For the estimated report, Pierre Garçon, Mike Person, Weston Richburg, Joe Staley, Jimmie Ward, K’Waun Williams, and Ahkello Witherspoon were all listed as DNP. From that group, Ward, Williams, and Witherspoon all seem like the ones to watch. Witherspoon almost certainly won’t practice on Thursday given how the concussion protocol works, while Ward’s hamstring is an uncertainty.
The best news is probably Trent Taylor and Dante Pettis estimated as limited. Both were DNPs all last week, and listed as doubtful and out, respectively, on the Week 6 injury report. This bodes well for both potentially getting back to action in Week 7, which would be a boost for C.J. Beathard.
Here are the estimations.
DNP: WR Pierre Garçon (shoulder, knee), G Mike Person (knee), C Weston Richburg (knee), T Joe Staley (knee), CB Jimmie Ward (hamstring), CB K’Waun Williams (shoulder), CB Ahkello Witherspoon (concussion)
Limited: RB Matt Breida (shoulder, ankle), TE George Kittle (knee), WR Dante Pettis (knee), CB Richard Sherman (calf), WR Trent Taylor (back)
Full: LB Reuben Foster (shoulder), G Joshua Garnett (toe), WR Marquise Goodwin (hamstring, quadricep), S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder)
