The San Francisco 49ers are unveiling a new statue in front of Levi’s Stadium before their Week 7 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. At 9:30 a.m. PT, the team will unveil a statue commemorating The Catch. It will be live streamed on 49ers.com, the 49ers team app, their Twitter account, and their Facebook page. We’ll embed the Facebook stream as soon as it’s available.
This will actually entail two statues — one of Joe Montana and one of Dwight Clark. They will be 23 yards apart, the same distance as they were on that fateful day against the Dallas Cowboys. The ceremony is not open to the public, but will be available for ticket holders to view as soon as the gates open. On non-event days, the statues will be available for viewing by anybody who swings by the stadium.
The 49ers have a host of statues at the stadium, but thus far they have all been in the team Hall of Fame, located inside the stadium. This is the first statue of significance to be placed outside the stadium, and it is the most fitting choice for such a statue.
