An arbitrator has ruled against former San Francisco 49ers and current Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid in his collusion grievance against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo. His collusion grievance against the NFL is still pending.
Reid filed a grievance against the Bengals based on their decision to ask him if he would continue kneeling during the National Anthem to protest racial injustice. Garafolo noted that the NFLPA argued the Bengals made the decision solely based on the kneeling question, and made it a precondition of employment in violation of the collective bargaining agreement.
Reid filed his grievance after Colin Kaepernick filed his own collusion grievance. Kaepernick’s grievance has been sent to trial. That does not mean Reid’s will also go to trial, or even that Kaepernick will win his case, but it leaves this can of worms open.
