Kyle Shanahan acknowledges teams have called about Pierre Garçon, other players

The trade deadline could still get busy for the 49ers.

The 2018 NFL trade deadline is two days away, and the teams are busy calling the San Francisco 49ers. Sunday morning, Adam Schefter reported wide receiver Pierre Garçon has drawn trade interest from several teams. Sunday afternoon, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the team has received calls about Garçon and other players.

Shanahan said that he looks forward to Garçon getting healthy and being available this Thursday against the Oakland Raiders. However, he also said the next two days could impact the roster. Nothing is happening yet, but the team is pursuing all avenues.

The 49ers now sit at 1-7 after another heart-breaking loss and it’s time to make some decisions. The playoffs were off the radar once Jimmy Garoppolo got hurt, and so there will be no short-term solutions. Pierre Garçon is a veteran leader, but the team might decide it’s time to move on and give the young guys even more looks. Kendrick Bourne stepped up in his absence, catching seven passes for 71 yards. Marquise Goodwin added a 55-yard touchdown catch and Trent Taylor had a seven-yard reception.

Garçon has struggled with health and effectiveness. The 49ers downgraded him from doubtful to out on Saturday. That kind of thing happens from time-to-time, but given the upcoming trade deadline, they might have just wanted to shut him down to get this sorted out. We’ll find out in the next 48 hours what’s up.
