Washington-Saints closes out the week with Monday Night Football

The NFL closes out Week 5 with a battle of first place NFC teams. The New Orleans Saints host Washington, with kickoff set for 5:15 p.m. PT on ESPN. Joe Tessitore and Jason Witten will call the game from the booth, with Booger McFarland serving as an analyst from the field. Lisa Salters continues her duties as the sideline reporter.

The biggest storyline of this game is Drew Brees. The Saints quarterback 98 yards back of Brett Favre for No. 2 on the all-time passing yardage leaderboard, and more importantly, 200 yards back of Peyton Manning for No. 1 all time. Brees also needs four touchdown passes to reach 500 for his career.

The Saints come into this game as a 6 point favorite, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. The Saints are a strong team at home when it comes to moneyline bets, but they have been inconsistent against the spread — they are 9-1 SU in their last ten home games, and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. Add in Washington having won five straight against the spread over the Saints, and I’m taking Washington. I think Washington’s defense can contain Brees & Co., and Alex Smith can keep this game close.
