Lost amidst the hubbub surrounding Nick Mullens’ spectacular first half against the Oakland Raiders was an unexpected sight during the National Anthem. One of the 49ers Gold Rush cheerleaders took a knee during the Anthem.
I believe this is the first time a 49ers cheerleader has taken a knee during the Anthem. Since Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid’s departures, Marquise Goodwin has been the primary source of social justice protest during 49ers games.
The protests have quieted down considerably, but there are still sporadic examples of individuals making a statement. The NFL likely is finally realizing they never needed to try and jam through a policy to force players to stand or remain in the locker room. It’s fallen off the radar, and with Donald Trump not banging that drum as the election approaches, it is likely entirely off his radar for the foreseeable future.
Twitter user @GatorLenny had an end zone seat and got this picture of it.
