The regular season debut for Nick Mullens could not be going much better. As of this publishing, he has completed 14 of 19 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2017, and after 19 games on the practice squad, he is getting his chance following C.J. Beathard’s injury.
The wild debut has led to some quick notoriety. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have been joking about Mullens jersey sales, but even more interesting is his social media presence. Mullens entered the game with an unverified Twitter account at @nickmullens. Midway through the third quarter, noted unverified 49ers beat writer Eric Branch (it’s a running joke at this point) discovered that Twitter had verified Mullens account.
And @nickmullens is now verified. Congrats, Nick, I'm guessing that's a great feeling. #49ers— Eric Branch (@Eric_Branch) November 2, 2018
It really has been a wild evening for the 49ers second-year quarterback. He is putting up impressive numbers, becoming the first player, making his NFL debut with the 49ers, to throw for two-or-more TDs in said game. Not too shabby!
