Welcome to Week 10 of the NFL season! The San Francisco 49ers host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, with Nick Mullens making his second start and the 49ers defense looking to build on a strong effort against the Raiders. There are big draft pick implications, but the 49ers might just be able to get a win streak going.
The 2018 NFL season is officially in full swing, which means regular season betting is back. I’m back for another year of picks in the Westgate SuperContest. SB Nation’s partners over at Odds Shark are sponsoring my entry again. The contest requires selecting 5 games each week and picking them against the spread. I went 3-2 in week 9, improving to 20-22-3 for the season. Overall for last week, I finished 7-6.
I pondered taking the 49ers over the Giants this week as one of my SuperContest picks, but decided to stay away. I’m taking them in my full list of picks, but didn’t quite have the stones to pull the trigger as one of my five. I’ll get into more detail on Monday, but in the meantime, I like them against the spread because of the potential for the 49ers defense to pile up sacks and turnovers. Much like an olive jar, once you get that first one out, they can come in big numbers. The Giants offensive line is a mess, and I think we see the 49ers defense get at least two takeaways. I don’t know what to expect of Nick Mullens in his second start, but he couldn’t ask for a much better follow-up defense after what he saw from the Raiders.
