The San Francisco 49ers will have Nick Mullens starting at quarterback tonight as they host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. Mullens made his regular season debut last week against the Oakland Raiders, and had one of the greatest debuts in NFL history. He completed 16 of 22 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns. Even in an era of wildly inflated stats, it was a great performance.
Jimmy Garoppolo is the 49ers quarterback of the future, but Mullens potentially has seven weeks to prove he is worth of a backup spot. You can never have enough good quarterbacks, and the 49ers could decide over the next two months that it’s worth trading Mullens or Beathard.
That’s still a long way off, and for now, we are just concentrating on tonight’s game against the Giants. And with that in mind, I wanted to open the door to predictions for the 49ers quarterback. How many yards, touchdowns, and interceptions do you predict for Mullens tonight?
I think we see another solid game against a bad Giants defense. I don’t expect things to go quite as well as they did against an atrocious Raiders defense, but I’ll go with 247 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions.
