Golden Nuggets: Is It Next Week Yet?

A daily compilation of 49ers news from around the net. Sunday, November 18th, 2018 edition.

NFL: New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning folks, we've got an abbreviated Nuggets today, as the team is on a bye week. Although there's no 49ers game this week, the team stands to strengthen their draft position in a pair of games this week, as three of the chief opponents at the bottom of the league will be playing.

The Raiders, currently the #1 pick in 2019, play against the three-win Buccaneers in what is likely their last chance to win a game. It'll be an uphill battle, as the Bucs have proven able to score points at will, and, well, the Raiders are completely inept. It feels gross rooting for the cross-town rivals, but it's infinitely better than rooting for 49ers losses.

The other game of interest is the Cardinals and Giants. Both of these teams have two wins, and are likely in the conversation for top 5 picks. The NFL currently has 7 three-win teams, and the victor today will join that logjam. The teams are currently tied in terms of strength of schedule, and both have beaten the 49ers. All things considered, either team winning would be fine - the Giants have 4th Quarter Hero Eli Manning, who is liable to pull out a victory any given Sunday, but the Cardinals have already had their bye week, and thus, more time to win another game. A tie would solidify both teams ahead of the 49ers in the standings, but if they both lose out, and we pull off another W, we'd take a long tumble down the draft board.

All in all, the real message here is that the 2019 season, with a healthy backfield and some new pieces can't come soon enough.
