It’s the latest in a string of incidents over the past year for the embattled 49ers linebacker.
Foster was cleared of domestic violence charges in May after his ex-girlfriend testified she falsified allegations that Foster assaulted her in Los Gatos in February. Foster pled guilty to an illegal weapons charge, also part of the incident with the girlfriend, stemming from an illegally owned rifle that was found loaded on his bathroom floor.
In addition to the dismissed domestic violence and weapons changes, Foster was arrested in January in his home state of Alabama for possession of marijuana. The NFL suspended him for the first two games of the 2018 season for violations of both the personal conduct and substance abuse policies.
The 49ers drafted Foster in the first-round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The 2017 Butkus Award winner, given to the nation’s top collegiate linebacker, was widely considered a top-five talent on the field. Foster fell to the bottom of the first-round after compounding concerns for both his character and his surgically repaired shoulder.
Foster was kicked out of the NFL Combine after an altercation with medical staff. The league was lated notified that Foster failed the drug test with a diluted sample.
Foster has battled a right shoulder injury since the 49ers’ Week 5 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. In addition, an injured hamstring sidelined Foster for the last two games. He was questionable to participate in Sunday’s contest against the Buccaneers.
