It was an unbelievable Thursday for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens. He made his first career appearance in an NFL game, starting in place of an injured C.J. Beathard, and it was an impressive showing. Mullens completed 16 of 22 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns.
After the game, Mullens was plenty emotional. He made clear he recognized it was just one game, but clearly it meant a lot to him. His postgame interview with Erin Andrews was pretty fantastic.

After doing his postgame duties, Mullens had a great line in the locker room. He talked about being in there after beating Dallas and how, “it’s only preseason, but that’s why we play the game.” He followed that up with an emphatic, “Well this isn’t preseason, and that’s why we play the damn game!”
