49ers open as high as a field goal favorite over Giants while we await official word on starting quarterback

Kyle Shanahan might announce the 49ers starting quarterback as early as Tuesday.

The San Francisco 49ers will be favorites once again when they host the New York Giants for Week 10 Monday Night Football. Coming off a big win over the Oakland Raiders, the 49ers are a 2.5-point favorite at the Westgate SuperBook and a field goal favorite at several online sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.

The line could be something to watch over the next couple days. The 49ers have not announced their starting quarterback, but reports from Ian Rapoport and Jay Glazer both have the 49ers expected to start Nick Mullens when they host the Giants. Mullens started in place of C.J. Beathard after the latter suffered wrist and thumb injuries.

Beathard is likely good to go physically, but Mullens put together a monster effort this past Thursday. In light of how this season is going, it would be hard to justify not giving Mullens a second chance.

One big question is what it might mean for the line. The lookahead line prior to TNF had the 49ers as a two-point favorite. The official line is a point higher, but one has to wonder how much people are ready to bet on Mullens & Co. I don’t expect a big change in the numbers, but it will be something to track as the week progresses.
