Earl Mitchell deactivated as D.J. Jones is locked in at nose tackle for now

The San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears released their Week 16 inactives lists, and there are no surprises. The most notable name on the 49ers list is defensive tackle Earl Mitchell. He has been active the past two weeks, but played primarily on special teams as the 49ers worked D.J. Jones into the rotation with more regularity. It appears Jones has earned an opportunity to finish the season as the team’s lead nose tackle.

Jaquiski Tartt is listed as inactive, but he was already placed on injured reserve on Saturday. He is dealing with a shoulder injury he could not shake. Marcell Harris will get the start in strong safety, but the bigger question is at free safety and nickel back. K’Waun Williams is active this week after missing the last two games. D.J. Reed started in his place at nickel back, while Antone Exum started at free safety. We could see Reed at free safety and Williams at nickel back today.

49ers inactives: S Jaquiski Tartt, RB Alfred Morris, S Tyree Robinson, OL Erik Magnuson, OT Shon Coleman, DT Earl Mitchell, DL Sheldon Day

Bears inactives: QB Tyler Bray, WR Kevin White, FS Eddie Jackson, OL Rashaad Coward, WR Javon Wims, DL Nick Williams, OLB Aaron Lynch
