49ers sitting as double-digit underdogs to Rams

The San Francisco 49ers have been underdogs for most of the 2018 season, and they will close out the season in that fashion. The 49ers travel to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 17 and are 10-point underdogs at most sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. 5Dimes is up to 11 points, but most are at 10 points.

The line moved up this afternoon after Kyle Shanahan announced that Matt Breida and Dante Pettis were already ruled out for the game. The line had opened at 10 points and come down to 9.5 points at most sportsbooks before the injury news was confirmed. Some money could flip this line, but I would not expect any drastic changes the rest of the week.

The 49ers have struggled on the road this season, sitting at 0-7 straight up and 2-5 against the spread. The last time the 49ers went winless on the road in a single season was in 1979 — Bill Walsh’s first season as head coach.

The Rams have plenty to play for in the game. They cannot claim the best record in the NFC, but with a one-game lead over the Chicago Bears, the Rams need a win or Bears loss to claim the second first round bye. 49ers-Rams and Bears-Vikings will both kick off at 1:25 p.m. PT. Bears head coach Matt Nagy said on Monday that if the Rams are blowing out the 49ers at halftime, he might rest his players in the second half. We’ll see if the 49ers can make it interesting and force the Bears to play things straight up the whole afternoon.
