Rams money is not moving the line with 49ers heading into week 17

I’m leaning towards laying the points.

The Los Angeles Rams are a consensus ten-point favorite at home against the San Francisco 49ers, and I find myself in a bit of a pickle heading into my final round of SuperContest picks.

These past five weeks I have included the 49ers game as one of my weekly SuperContest picks. I have been out of the running for a while now, so I figured I might as well do my best to pick the 49ers game each week. I am 3-2 after the 49ers came up just short of covering against the Bears last weekend.

As the weekend approaches, betting thus far has been on the Rams more than the 49ers. OddsShark tracks online wagering, and as of Thursday evening, 54 percent of betting has been on the Rams. Wager Talk offers a look at where wagering is on a host of online and brick and mortar shops, and it was up over 70 percent of wagers on the Rams as of last night.

Amidst all this, the line has remained steady since Monday. On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Matt Breida and Dante Pettis would not play. The line moved half a point to a point shortly after that news. On Friday, I suspect Shanahan will announce Marquise Goodwin will be doubtful or our for Sunday. We’ll see if the line moves.

The Rams have plenty to play for on Sunday, with a chance at a first round bye there for the taking. They pummeled the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in Week 7, thanks in part to four turnovers. The Rams offense has struggled to get going in recent weeks, while the defense has been a bit hit-or-miss. But they remain a tough team.

I’m leaning towards laying the points. I would have preferred laying the 9.5 points, but ten points is better than the 10.5 some shops are offering. I do think the 49ers could hang close given Jared Goff’s recent struggles, but Aaron Donald could do serious damage to the 49ers offense. What do you think?
