The San Francisco 49ers currently hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, thanks to the strength of schedule tiebreaker over the Oakland Raiders. Plenty can change over the final four weeks of the 2018 regular season, but the 49ers are in strong position for a top three pick, and potentially the No. 1 overall pick.
Pro Football Focus released their latest 2019 NFL mock draft, and Ohio State edge rusher Nick Bosa is slotted to the 49ers at No. 1. Even with the 49ers spending numerous picks on the defensive line in recent years, Bosa makes a ton of sense. Here’s what PFF had to say about the pick.
While the 49ers have used first-round picks along their defensive line in three of the last four seasons, those are sunk costs at this point. They’d be overthinking it to go anywhere other than the best player available, and that’s Nick Bosa. The Ohio State edge defender has led all FBS defensive linemen in pass-rush win rate each of the past two seasons.
There are going to be disagreements over whether or not Bosa is worthy of the No. 1 pick, but if the 49ers hold the pick, he will be regularly featured as the choice. We’ll have plenty of time to break down Bosa and others, but if the 49ers end up with the first or second pick, prepare for plenty of Bosa analysis.
For those that are not so inclined to add Bosa, what is your alternative? Some would suggest trading down and accumulating picks, while others might simply have a better player in mind. Who you got?
