Golden Nuggets: Dante Pettis up for Rookie of the Week nomination

The loss on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks officially knocked the 49ers out of playoff contention. The rest of the season will be used to evaluate the roster for the 2019 season. This season has been a great season for 2nd year players George Kittle and Matt Breida. They figure to play a big part in this roster going forward. For the rookies, Mike McGlinchey and Fred Warner have proven to be good football players. In the last 2 weeks, WR Dante Pettis has added his name to players to look forward to next season.

Dante Pettis has had 2 great weeks. He has 3 touchdowns and over 200 yards combined in those games. He had 2 touchdowns and over 120 yards against the Seahawks, which got him a rookie of the week nomination. The team were excited to land Dante in the draft because of his receiving abilities and it seems like he is finally getting going. While Dante, McGlinchey, and Warner has the team excited for the future, there is no guarantee they play as well in the 2nd season. Ahkello Witherspoon, Adrian Colbert, and Reuben Foster generated excitement in their 1st season, but they have had a rough sophomore season. Hopefully Dante, McGlinchey, and Warner take the path of Kittle and Breida rather than the other way around.

The return of Jimmy Garoppolo back to full health will be the biggest deal for the 49ers next season. Once he went down this season, it was going to very difficult for the 49ers to compete. But other than Jimmy’s return, the 49ers need to continue to change over of the roster to find stars and depth. Currently holding the number 1 pick in the draft, the 49ers can draft whoever they think is the best player in the draft because they need players at almost any position.
