D.J. Reed, Marquise Goodwin return to 49ers practice in Week 14

The 49ers are missing two starters, but welcomed back potential starters.

The San Francisco 49ers were back at practice on Wednesday, and there are no big surprises on the injury report. Matt Breida and Jaquiski Tartt both sat out practice, two days after head coach Kyle Shanahan said they would be out this weekend. Dekoda Watson was also a DNP, and was placed on injured reserve earlier this afternoon with a calf tear.

The big change from last week is the return of Marquise Goodwin. He has returned to practice, and seems set to return to action this weekend. Shanahan said they will track his progress this week given the time he has missed, but I suspect we see him back on the field. Opposite him, Pierre Garçon continues to chug along as a limited participant. It seems unlikely he plays given how the 49ers have handled his situation, but we’ll see what Sunday brings.

Finally, Rookie D.J. Reed appears to be back on track as he put in a full workout. Antone Exum was limited with a knee injury. With Tartt out, Reed or Exum would get the start at free safety. Reed was first off the bench two weeks ago after Jimmie Ward got hurt, so we’ll see if that continues, and if Marcell Harris gets another start at strong safety.
