We are four days removed from the San Francisco 49ers signing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a huge contract extension. There is plenty to remain excited about, but we’ve had a few days to relax from the initial high of hearing the news.
I had pondered doing a poll right after the contract news broke, but we did not have complete information, and we were still riding the emotions of the news. Four days later, I thought it was a good time to see what people think of the deal. Whether he plays well or poorly in the coming years, opinions could change plenty, but this would be a helpful baseline.
We broke down the salary cap figures for the contract on Thursday morning. Garoppolo will receive $42.6 million in the first year, with a cap hit of $37 million. He will receive $61.2 million over the course of the first two seasons, with a 2019 cap hit of $20 million. If he struggles these first two seasons, the 49ers could release him with a $4.2 million dead money hit the rest of the way.
What do you think about the deal? How would you rate it on a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best)? If you can’t see the poll, click here.
