Year in Review San Francisco 49ers

Every year the R/nfl sub reddit runs a 32 teams in 32 days series. On reddit users who follow each team will review the highlights and low lights of the season, with synopsis of each game, upcoming free agents, reviews of the rookie class, reviewing the coaching staff. the idea being to objectively evaluate how the team performed versus expectations, and let fans of other teams read in depth about how that teams season played out. So /u/AnalAttackProbe and a few others out together a review of the San Francisco Fighting Jimmy Garoppolos.

The Jimmy G Effect:

Stat of the Season With Hoyer/Beathard Rank With Garoppolo Rank
Points Per Drive 1.4 29th 2.9 1st

2017 Season Analysis by week

Week 1: Panthers 23, 49ers 3 (0-1)

The highlight of the day for the Niners was a stunning one-handed interception by safety Jaquiski Tartt.

Week 3: Rams 41, 49ers 39 (0-3)

Ultimately the game would be decided by a (totally, 100% unbiased) phantom offensive pass interference flag on rookie Trent Taylor, who juked a man so bad the ref couldn’t even fathom the notion he’d done it without pushing off

Week 8: 49ers 10, Eagles 33 (0-8)

Big news came after the game, with the announcement during Monday Night Football that the Niners had traded for Jimmy Garoppolo

Week 10: Giants 21, 49ers 31 (1-9)

San Francisco dominated the Giants throughout the game and the highlight of the day came courtesy of an 84-yard touchdown pass from C.J. Beathard to Marquise Goodwin. Goodwin was playing less than 24 hours after the death of his infant son and his emotional celebration touched the hearts of fans across the league.

Week 11: BYE WEEK

Niners entered the bye week having just won their first game of the season. People over at /r/49ers declared that the bye week counted as a victory, too, as all three division rivals lost and kept the 49ers from being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. It’s the little things like that which made /r/49ers worth visiting even at the worst of times. Two game "winning" streak, bitches.

Week 12: Seahawks 24, 49ers 13 (1-10)

Enter: Jimmy G. Garoppolo would only be a part of one 49ers drive, but would march them down the field for a late score in what was unquestionably the highlight of the day.

Week 17: 49ers 34, Rams 13 (6-10)

The game was a beating from the start and nothing better represents that than the highlight of the day, which saw rookie safety Adrian Colbert demolish Rams wideout Mike Thomas on a deep ball. Colbert ended up getting flagged on the play for his dick being too big, or something. The Niners would end the year on a 5 game winning streak under Jimmy "literally the fucking GOAT" Garoppolo.

2017 Player Review

Offense:

It was a tale of three seasons for the 49ers’ offense. The year started with Brian Hoyer under center, but his ineffectiveness lead to a benching in Week 6 and the promotion of 3rd round rookie C.J. Beathard. On Halloween Jimmy Garoppolo entered the picture and by Week 13 he had taken the reins to lead the 49ers’ resurgence down the stretch.

The NFL’s worst defense in 2016 got better in 2017. Two first round draft picks, Reuben Foster and Solomon Thomas, helped a team that ranked 31st or worse in pretty much every single fuckingstatistic in 2016 take massive steps toward respectability. Still, there is plenty of work to do on the defensive side of the ball before 2018.

2017 Draft Picks/Rookies:

Reuben Foster

Foster is a true sideline-to-sideline player with incredible instincts and athleticism to go along with his magnetic personality. Pro Football Focus rated Foster as a Top 60 player in all of football after his rookie season

Ahkello Witherspoon

he took over for Rashard "Never Met a Pass Interference He Didn’t Like" Robinson in Week 6 he shined. Ahkello’s tall, long frame (6’3, 33" arms) is a perfect fit for the team’s new press cover-3 scheme.

George Kittle

Kittle is a matchup nightmare at 6’4, 250 lbs, with 4.5 speed and a 35" vertical. It took George some time to learn the playbook, but he came on strong in the latter half of the season and paced 49ers TEs with 515 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Trent Taylor

I could spend some time here talking about how Taylor is a scrappy gym rat and a real student of the game, or compare him to other receivers with similar levels of melanin like Danny Amendola or Wes Welker… but I think that’s unfair to Trent. The 5’8 wideout compares himself to Randy Moss.

Ive only quoted a few points from the post i enjoyed, but you should go over an give it a read, /u/AnalAttackProbe clearly put allot of work into it, and I didn't quote much of it. Again its a great read for us coming off our Jimmy Garoppolo Highs or Reuben Foster Lows. (side note, this article posted shortly after the Foster news, that kinda takes over the comments) the post continues to review possible Free agent Targets, possible draft picks, reviews of the coaching staff, a review of the teams needs, and analysis of the teams Free Agents.

Ill leave you with this last tidbit:

Final Thoughts

The future is bright for the 49ers, who announced a five year extension for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo last week. Fittingly, his 5-year deal ties him to the Niners for the remainder of coach Kyle Shanahan’s and GM John Lynch’s current contracts. With their franchise QB in place and a boatload of cap space and draft capital, the Niners look to be poised to break out in 2018.

There is still work to be done, of course, and questions still surround the 49ers on defense and the offensive line. However, even the impartial NFL follower has to admit that things are looking really good for San Francisco. 2018 could see this storied franchise return to the playoffs for the first time since the departure of Jim Harbaugh.

Also, Jimmy G is never losing a game and the Niners are guaranteed to win every Super Bowl for the next 15 years. Don’t @ me.
