What is your favorite 49ers Super Bowl win?

The San Francisco 49ers have fallen on hard times in recent years, but optimism has returned with Jimmy Garoppolo, Kyle Shanahan, and John Lynch. There is a lot of work to be done, but it’s hard not to consider a possible return to glory in the coming years.

The audience here at Niners Nation skews a little bit younger, so there are a lot of people who either aren’t old enough to strongly recall the 49ers previous Super Bowls, or are limited to the last Super Bowl win, and then the Super Bowl that shall not be named. Of course, there are those of us who remember some of the earlier ones, and of course even older fans who go back to well before Super Bowl glory.

Recently, SB Nation put together a video of team site contributors talking about the best Super Bowl moment for their franchise. You can check out the video above, which includes Jennifer Chan talking about Joe Montana to John Taylor in Super Bowl 23.

That’s the iconic Super Bowl moment, but let’s think about this from another perspective. Which of the 49ers Super Bowl victories is your favorite?

There is an argument to be made for each of the five victories:

XVI — 26-21 over Cincinnati Bengals: The first one is always the best one.

XIX — 38-16 over Miami Dolphins: Dan Marino had a record-setting regular season, and then was easily contained by the 49ers defense.

XXIII — 20-16 over Cincinnati Bengals: Montana-to-Taylor, and it was Bill Walsh’s last game as head coach.

XXIV — 55-10 over Denver Broncos: Utter decimation of the No. 1 ranked defense in the league.

XXIX — 49-26 over San Diego Chargers: Steve Young gets the monkey off his back in a game the 49ers dominate from start to finish.

If I was older, I think the first one would probably top my list. But I was 2 ¹⁄₂ at the tie, so it’s just not the same. My personal choice comes down to the wins over Denver and San Diego. I love a good blowout, and both had compelling storylines. The Broncos defense was dominant, but was absolutely crushed. The win over the Chargers was more a coronation after the Steve Young-led Cowboys finally got past the Dallas Cowboys.

I’m a Steve Young guy, which makes me lean that way. But if I try and play this a little more objectively, I probably have to go with the beatdown of the Broncos. It was a perfect performance capping off a season on the short list for greatest of all time.
