Free agent cornerback Vontae Davis continues to make the rounds, and is visiting with the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Davis visited with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, and there’s no word on how that visit went. He has also visited the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns.
Davis, 29, is the younger brother of former 49ers tight end Vernon Davis. He was a first-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2009 NFL Draft, but missed a bunch of time in 2017 with a groin injury. He missed the first three games of the season, started five, and then was placed on injured reserve when the injury was aggravated.
He’s either healthy or close enough to it at this point that he’s making the rounds. It’s unclear if he hasn’t heard an offer he likes or if he’s simply doing his due diligence before the free agency fest gets started proper.
I’d be interested to see him sign with San Francisco on a “prove-it” deal, what with cornerback being such a huge need.
