Free agent cornerback Vontae Davis has came and went. He was on the west coast to visit with the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders. It sounds like Davis was happy with his trip west, but that he won’t be making a decision right away. He pretty much has until the rest of the market opens at the start of free agency.
Davis, 29, visited with the 49rs on Tuesday and the Raiders on Wednesday. Prior to that, he took visited with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. I imagine the 49ers are the best free agency destination among those teams, but there’s no word on how either of the visits went, aside from Davis’ Tweet, which can be seen below.
Been an amazing tour enjoyed the west coast didn’t have enough time to ghost ride the whip heading home to reflect with the fam #BigThingsAhead

He says he had an amazing tour, but he could just be talking about the sights. The 49ers have a huge need at cornerback opposite Ahkello Witherspoon and ahead of nickel corner K’Waun Williams. Davis, younger brother of former 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, was injured this past season but has played at a high level for most of his career.
Then again, Davis isn’t a slam-dunk, shutdown corner that the 49ers need. It really depends on how high they view Witherspoon’s ceiling, at least in my opinion. Davis fills a need, but there could be names out there who fill the need better. It was reported on Wednesday evening that it’s unlikely the Jacksonville Jaguars will re-sign cornerback Aaron Colvin.
